Our species has humble beginnings. We transitioned from walking barefoot to the protection and comfort of shoes, from dancing around fires to shelters that safeguarded us from the elements. This evolution also led us to build walls.Even though cave walls once served as canvases, not everyone knew how to use the new walls of human evolution as such and we began using these new walls to divide us.
Today, there’s an "epidemic of loneliness" despite our unprecedented possibilities to communicate and access information.
In the past, with fewer tools and less accesible knowledge, we had no choice but to come together as a community. Connection was necessary for survival. We thought it was because we were younger on the evolutionary scale, but in our ascension we overlooked how necessary it always is for the well-being of our souls. A rite that was sacred in the beginning of us, was lost in materialism.
We started with pagan rituals, feasts and festivals. These evolved into religious rituals, artistic and sportive celebrations. Today, there’s an entire industry devoted to gatherings and parties.
Because of the way we evolved, we often consider parties to be a waste of time, dangerous and superficial.
While these points are valid and like everything, one activity should not define you or your life, balance is key. Due to the worrisome ways parties have evolved, many are fearful of embracing social occasions and are oblivious to the positive and innocent aspects of partying.
Enjoying others' company, laughing and relaxing while sharing a hobby or a reason for gathering should be considered vital. There’s no right or wrong way to have fun (as long as you don't hurt anyone) and while the industry may be sketchy, there’s an event or a place (public or private) for anyone.
Why is this so important? Have you ever been in a crowd, in such synchronicity, that the power you feel from each soul becomes tangible? Imagine if most of us could experience that. Not just through dancing, storytelling or performing, creating etc. but if with the same connectivity, we could act together on matters of greater importance more often, not as a grand acts, but as parts of everyday life?
If you stop in a moment of such synchronicity and truly observe, you'll realize that this power, emerging when we are together and in sync, is often redirected towards protests, politics, war and greed-driven religion or other ideologies.
If we believe power comes from not having fun, we will never tap into it. We will always need someone else to play the song so we can sing along, pay tickets and taxes for this "priviledge". But, in all your individual encounters (and if you haven’t had any, PLEASE GO OUT), you’ve seen that creators from all walks of life are painting the future through having a good time—sometimes as small as a gesture, other times as grand as making history. Who will make history if the thread of passion is not kept alive through everyday acts?
We need to consider having fun vital to creating "our songs to sing to." These songs are narratives. These narratives turn into ways of life and being and after, when we will start thriving, we will begin to know peace.
