suceava rock n’ roll
Suceava was once the heart of Moldavian power, guarded by the Cetatea de Scaun (Throne Citadel). For centuries, it stood as an imposing stone sentinel against invasions.
For my 18th birthday, I finally traveled across the country to visit my boyfriend’s roots in Suceava. It was a brief, adventurous blur of a weekend. Condensed, intense and entirely worth the grueling train ride.
We left behind an overloaded, sweltering August in Bucharest. Stepping off the train at 8:00 AM, the expected wave of heat was replaced by a sharp, 10°C shiver. I was dressed for the sweat of the capital, not the chill of the north, but the cold felt like a wake-up call.
By the time we arrived, I had been awake for over 24 hours. It wasn't the "perfect recipe" for a trip, but I refused to waste a single hour sleeping. I knew the night would eventually offer its embrace. Until then, there was too much to see.
As if by design for my birthday, a rock festival was blasting through the city that night. We waited through a total power failure at 9:00 PM, laughing in the dark and just as we were about to give up, the stage roared back to life at 10:00 PM. With my last shreds of energy, I threw myself into the music.
The rest of the weekend was spent exploring the places that shaped my boyfriend’s childhood.
We even squeezed in one last party before facing the long iron track back to Bucharest.
