About COPY.EDIT.PASTE.
Social, economic, personal or even spiritual barriers, through the help of technology and passionate creators, have brought us to a point where listening to music, any music, is just a few clicks away. Choosing how and when to watch a movie or a series doesn't require moving an inch and photography no longer necessarily needs a dedicated camera.
However, all this accessibility of content, art or information has not yet reached its peak of development, creation and consumption; it is still spreading. This accessibility is like a growing child, detaching from its parents, discovering the world, becoming more than just a source. Similar to when you create, you put everything you know on this path of exploration to traverse it and you accumulate everything you can to continue (to express yourself better). There's nothing original in this, it's familiar, natural.
The object of the content will matter regardless of who or how many are behind it, as long as multiple versions contribute to expressing a personal idea that resonates with the source. The originality lies in the reaction that made you alter the source (you know those silly posts that tell you to replace a word in a song's title with something just for you to laugh for no reason).
When anyone can create and share to inspire or convey a message, when they can alter something created by someone else enough to make it another photograph, a painting, a meme, or a series of SF Fantasy digital art, who decides and whose right is violated in return? Does it even matter? If you copy unintentionally, through what you see and touch, yes; and now even when you scroll?
Perhaps it matters even more now because it is a part of our daily social contribution. If you accumulate enough, you can afford more whims (if you like) or let it become your muse and that is such an old story that should be adapted by Netflix.
Instead of turning creation into a weapon (we have propaganda for that) or putting it on a pedestal of ego, let's remember that it fulfills its duty to influence regardless of the reasoning behind it, which puts it in moral conflicts that won't change what the viewer or listener feels, watches.
As a creative exercise for this concept, the photographs in the exhibition taken by Ruxandra Petre were manipulated by Alexandra Crisbășan and the photographs taken by Alexandra Crisbășan were manipulated by Ruxandra Petre.
The photographs are for sale, A3 size ones cost 150 RON each, and the 10x15 size ones cost 15 RON each.
