““It is becoming increasingly clear to me that the very purpose of visual art, paintings, sculptures and photography, is to leave them behind, not as useless things, but as essential centers of life, as residues of a champion of life who, on their own, matter: they alone measure life itself and the prestige of a final balance. The painting, sculpture or artistic photograph is a trace of the hygiene of forgetting. You leave traces: nausea, children, dramas, memories, weariness, trees, books, installations, sculptures, photographs, paintings. But when making the art artifact, the purpose and content of life is just as futile as taking any of the achievements of any champion as a goal. Any gold medal. When you don’t perceive your visual creations as residues of a rich lunch of existence, when you idolize them (and idolize yourself within them), they subtly become valuable paintings, golden era photographs, visual installations with a golden heart, decorative sculptures, a career in installation or mere artifacts of toil, graves of an inert industriousness in which souls bury themselves in a guilty self-forgetfulness when you thirst for gold. The artist is nothing but the hypertrophy of a trace, the illegitimate dilation of a champion. Living to create art is equivalent to living hallucinated by your own weight in gold. It is fatal to cast a yellowish shadow when standing in the sun. But decisively, essentially, obligatorily, it is the fact of standing in the sun, of moving freed from one’s own value, satiated with gold as a mosquito is satiated with blood. Our exhibition aims to find champions beyond gold. Champions among artists, but especially champions among viewers. Come and take GOLD to rid yourself of GOLD. The gold medal.””
